چکیده
We prove that for “most” closed 3-dimensional manifolds M, the existence of a non singular one-form in given cohomology class u∈H 1 (M,ℝ)=Hom(π (M),ℝ) is equivalent to fact every twisted Alexander polynomial Δ H (M,u)∈ℤ[G/keru] associated normal subgroup with finite index H<π (M) has unitary u-minimal term.

The Thurston Norm, Fibered Manifolds and Twisted Alexander Polynomials
Every element in the first cohomology group of a 3–manifold is dual to embedded surfaces. The Thurston norm measures the minimal ‘complexity’ of such surfaces. For instance the Thurston norm of a knot complement determines the genus of the knot in the 3–sphere. We show that the degrees of twisted Alexander polynomials give lower bounds on the Thurston norm, generalizing work of McMullen and Tur...
متن کاملAlexander-Lin twisted polynomials
X.S. Lin’s original definition of twisted Alexander knot polynomial is generalized for arbitrary finitely presented groups. J. Cha’s fibering obstruction theorem is generalized. The group of a nontrivial virtual knot shown by L. Kauffman to have trivial Jones polynomial is seen also to have a faithful representation that yields a trivial twisted Alexander polynomial.
متن کاملTwisted Alexander Polynomials and Representation Shifts
For any knot, the following are equivalent. (1) The infinite cyclic cover has uncountably many finite covers; (2) there exists a finite-image representation of the knot group for which the twisted Alexander polynomial vanishes; (3) the knot group admits a finite-image representation such that the image of the fundamental group of an incompressible Seifert surface is a proper subgroup of the ima...
متن کاملChern classes in Alexander-Spanier cohomology
In this article we construct explicit cocycles in the AlexanderSpanier cohomological complex, representing the Chern character of an element in K-theory
